Hidden lights

We stepped down from
deep tree cover out into
clear cold night winding
around us, the wind

whirling through my hair
like the river beneath us.

 Trembling overtook me—
part fear of the cliff
and half chill from the air.

You took me to your chest.

Out beyond the smog and smut
of what smothers us, the sky
let us see all it stars—each hidden light
came out to dance.

You have been like
that bluff for me—

always there, waiting for me
to come show you
who I am.
